We are always looking to implement the newest technology in our services but will always do our due diligence during and after our implementation. Currently we are implementing AI into our workflows. We have found that this tool is highly beneficial in report writing (i.e. site visit reports, inspection reports, or other types of engineering reports). We have also found that AI is currently inefficient in designing temporary works. We would like to note that AI does actually KNOW how to design to current standards. BUT, we have found that AI does not know how to build, as it does not understand what can be built efficiently. We also know that any AI design does need to be checked and verified by a competent individual who is a licensed Professional Engineer.
For example, we have recently asked AI to simply design formwork for a concrete wall that is 16' tall, 2' wide, 1000' long with a 4ft/hr pour rate in 200' pours, resulting in 237 CY per pour, which the AI accurately analyzed. BUT, AI has decided that the proper design is as follows:
3/4" HDO Class 1 Plywood
2x6 SPF No. 2 VERTICAL Studs @ 12" c/c
DBL 2x8 SPF No. 2 Walers @ 24" c/c
1" Snap Ties or Coil Rod @ 24" c/c
It is our opinion that the AI constructed forms are NOT beneficial to a reuse scenario OR are easily incorporated into the field. For an example, we believe it is more beneficial for the contractor to utilize 4x4 HORINZONTAL studs with either DBL 4x6 or DBL steel channel walers to facilitate removal and reuse.
We would like to bring this to your attention as the technology advancese into our realm. We will NEVER be complacent in our designs.
